Our first show/competition piece of the 2024-2025 season was a hit! No Room for a Picture on the Blank Wall details the life of a man and his family as they go about life after his diagnosis with Alzheimer's. At the state conference, there was no dry eye in the theater after the kids' performance. Our ensemble won an award for Excellence in Acting. Actors Zeke Dunn (Peter Bunther) and Kaylen Cox (Rosemary Bunther) won Super awards from the Palmetto Dramatic Association for their performances in the show. Kaylen also received one of two coveted Blair Beasley Scholarships, making Cox the first ever recipient from Beckham to receive this special award.
Honors Performance Theatre students directed yet another show this year after positive reception from last year's play. This class of 8 students won the audience over with their humor and quick wit. Similar to last year's show, every part of the production was student-led.
Little Women: The Broadway Musical by Allan Knee, Mindi Dickstein, and Jason Howland
Our Musical Theatre class put on the classic tale of Little Women this year. For this production, we were able to rent gorgeous costumes from Philadelphia. Little Women was praised for students' expert singing (under the direction of Tiffany Hill) and great period-specific acting. Not only did we have fabulous actors onstage, but we received some nice set pieces from Dr. Stroud's Construction Class as well as beautiful lighting by student lighting designer, Patrick Reardon.
This show was performed by the 2023-2024 Upper Level Honors Theatre class at school and at the PDA/SC Thespian Conference. There, the show scored an "Excellent" and actors Isabella Noguiera, Ethan Roina, and Zeke Dunn won "Excellent" awards for their acting as well.
The Musical Theatre class performed this comical piece as the school's first ever curricular musical. Special guests featured in the show include Mr. Stroud, our fabulous construction teacher, and Mr. Cieslikowski, a former Beckham assistant principal, as our Jesuses. The show had amazing guest spellers from our amazing LBHS community each night too.
Lower Level Honors Theatre wasn't originally slated to perform a play this year; however, this hardworking group of students earned one. This group of awesome actors received a grant from the Charleston County School District's Visual and Performing Arts Department and put on this hilarious show. An Absolutely True Story was completely student-led. Students directed, designed, and acted in this wonderfully quirky play.
Airport Encounters, our first ever show under the direction of our current theatre teacher, Ms. Goodman, was a vignette-style play about individuals meeting in the airport. This was performed by the Honors Theatre Class for an in-school, student audience and for our greater community and parents later that evening.
Our first ever musical was rehearsed afterschool with a fun group of kids! Based on the classic movie, about 20 kids took to the stage to belt out new and exciting tunes. For this show, Ms. Goodman directed and Mr. Weeks choreographed and music directed. Costumes were designed by student designer, Ava Orwig. The kids had a blast and a half with this piece and still talk about it to this day.
